Dear Prospective Parents,

Welcome and thank you for considering The Gateway School for your child!

Gateway is an independent school that develops bright children who learn differently into skilled, strategic learners and confident self-advocates. Located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Gateway accepts students ages 5 to 13. By providing a supportive and engaging learning experience, our program ultimately empowers each student to produce academic work reflective of their intellectual potential.

The typical Gateway student has struggled in traditional classroom settings and requires an approach to teaching that acknowledges the different ways in which they learn. Our students have language-based learning differences (dyslexia, expressive and receptive language delays, reading and writing difficulties), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and/or executive function disorder. In classes with a low student-to-teacher ratio, faculty and specialists pay close attention to how each child learns and individualize instruction accordingly. Our integrated curriculum weaves together skills, strategies, and content. Instruction is direct, explicit, sequential, and multisensory, as validated by research. As teachers guide students to identify their strengths and take pride in their accomplishments, Gateway students become confident self-advocates.

We look forward to hearing from you!

In my child's initial interview/evaluation with the Gateway teachers, they described our child perfectly—in a way that no other school, teacher, therapist has been able to until then. They got him. They understand how to teach, motivate and challenge him today. We are so grateful for the school because we know they are giving him the tools to succeed in the real world tomorrow.

Gateway Parent

Gateway is a school for students who struggle with language-based learning differences. Our mission has meaning and is clear: we teach students how to become skilled, strategic learners and confident self-advocates.

Being able to break down a word, whether it was two syllables or five syllables, that was my biggest struggle...learning different tactics and skills to break down these words, still to this day I use them, in college and after, and it all started here.
