On September 5, Lower School families came together to celebrate being back to school with the annual picnic at West End Towers Playground. It was wonderful seeing families enjoying each other’s company and starting off the year with energy and excitement! We look forward to continuing to build our Gateway community this year. Thank you to those who participated and a special thanks to our PA organizers and hosts: Helen Brown, Heidi Bonilla, Jennifer Serrano, and Monika Wyszomirska.
The Gala on April 20 was a great success! Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to Gateway. Departing from tradition, the event featured a festive Western theme, complete with country music, cowboy hats galore, and even a mechanical bull. The funds raised through sponsorships, ticket sales, and the silent, live, and reverse auctions represent an inspiring commitment from our community, ensuring that our unique educational program will be available for current and future generations of bright children with learning differences. Special thanks go out to all of our generous Sponsors, The Joseph H. Flom Foundation, the Gala Committee, and especially Gateway parent and trustee Melissa Lis for chairing this year’s Gala.
Visit gatewayschoolgalaauction.org to view all the fabulous items in the silent auction benefiting the Gateway Gala! From travel packages and one-of-a-kind experiences to artistic pieces and designer goods, you’re sure to find something amazing for yourself or your family. You can bid anytime between now and 9:30 p.m. on April 20, 2017. If you haven’t purchased your Gala tickets yet, be sure to click here for tickets.
We’re excited for The Gateway School’s Annual Gala, which will take place on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Tribeca Three Sixty. This western-themed event will be an evening to remember! It will include a Gala reception, silent and reverse auction, DJ and dancing, and delicious (and abundant!) food and drinks.
Individual tickets are on sale now—we are excited to offer a special early bird price this year. This offer is only available until April 5, so please consider purchasing your tickets early. (Note: Registration is required to purchase online.)
Sponsorships are available at the Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels. Each comes with its own set of benefits, including tickets, and choosing to be a sponsor is an incredible way to show your support.
The Gala is the biggest fundraising event of the year for Gateway, and we hope you will join in the celebration with our entire community.
The Parents Association’s annual Bowling Party was a great success, with over 150 people (parents, students, siblings, caregivers) coming together for a fun Sunday morning on January 29. It was the highest attended bowling party in recent memory.
Thank you to parents Paula Weiss and Helen Brown for organizing the event. To see more photos, visit the Facebook gallery.
On January 20, a film crew turned one of the 5th floor classrooms into a makeshift film studio. The crew visited Gateway to gather footage and student interviews for the annual Gala, the school’s signature fundraising and community event, which will take place on April 20, 2017 at Tribeca Three Sixty.
We look forward to sharing the completed video with everyone at the Gala.
The Gateway School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration will take place on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York City. Ticket sales have now opened, and we hope you will join us and many generations of families on that special night.

- Buy a sponsorship package, which includes a variety of benefits.
- Place an ad in the event journal.
- If you are unable to attend the Gala, you can still make a donation in honor of our 50th anniversary.

The first Positive Parenting Talk of the school year took place on October 16, 2015 and was well-attended. In collaboration with the Gateway psychology team, we welcomed back two speakers from the Child Mind Institute:
- The Lower School presentation, led by Dr. Mandi Silverman, focused on creating and maintaining structure at home, including limit- and boundary-setting, the importance of consistency, and providing children with clear expectations. Dr. Silverman also addressed how to create effective behavioral principles and how to maintain them when siblings are involved.
- The Middle School presentation, led by Dr. Kristen Carothers, addressed the impact of social media and gaming on young adolescents, as well as ways to set limits and keep kids safe.
The next Positive Parenting Talk is scheduled for March 18, 2016—mark your calendars!
