Letter from the Director of The Gateway Middle School
Welcome and thank you for your interest in The Middle School Program. At the heart of the Gateway Middle School experience is our commitment to building academic and social independence through skillful instruction based on addressing individual student's needs and encouraging the development of each student's own unique strengths. We emphasize the importance of the individual, while maintaining a firm belief that adolescent students learn best when engaged with their peer learning community. Throughout the middle school grades, changing expectations in learning demand increased independence. Therefore, our goal is to teach students the skills necessary to achieve their own best level of independence. Through our core curriculum as well as arts electives and the highly innovative Center for Education Enrichment, we encourage students to deeply engage in experiences in the Arts, Sciences, and Humanities. Throughout Gateway's history, attending to the social-emotional learning of each student has been a priority, and Gateway's Middle School Program continues this tradition by incorporating an emotionally supportive and socially guiding environment.
