2020 – 2021 School Year
Part-Time Position: Mondays and Tuesdays
For over 50 years, The Gateway School has transformed the lives of bright children who experience academic difficulty as a result of language-based learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, reading and writing disorders), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), executive function disorder, or auditory processing difficulties. Located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Gateway enrolls 180 students between the ages of 5-14. In small classes with a low student-to-teacher ratio, faculty and therapists meet students where they are, individualize instruction accordingly, and develop them into skilled, strategic, independent learners who are capable of advocating for themselves and who are prepared to transition into mainstream school and life.
The Gateway Lower School, serving students ages 5-10, seeks a part-time Classroom Aide to join our team on Mondays and Tuesdays for the 2020-2021 school year. The Classroom Aide provides supervision of children during non-academic time including arrivals and dismissals, hallway movement, lunch time, and recess activities. The Aide will assist students with safety protocols including handwashing, social distancing, and the wearing of appropriate PPE at all times; and assist, monitor, and supervise students during online instruction. The ideal candidate will serve as a positive role model for students and the community.
- Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior experience working with children
- Experience with Google Classroom, Zoom, and Chromebooks
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others
- Exhibits good judgment and responds positively to feedback and supervision
