The Gateway School is proud to have hosted “No More the Dog Ate My Homework: Developing Executive Functioning Skills to Foster Independence.” This interactive discussion explored how mainstream and inclusion teachers can integrate systems that encourage students with learning disabilities and attention deficits to develop increased independence while supporting skills such as time management, self-monitoring, and organization. Gateway Faculty described specific executive functioning skills, offered practical techniques to help teachers develop these skills in students, and demonstrated systems and strategies to prepare students for successful participation in mainstream settings, as strong executive functioning skills are integral to succeed both academically and in life.
